The camp

A small camp, done well

Kijani Camp is a small, privately run tented camp inside Tarangire National Park, with views over Lake Burunge. With only four guest tents, it offers a quieter, more personal alternative to the larger lodges in the area.

Why only four tents

Small enough to feel personal

Four tents means no crowds, no buffet service and a team that knows every guest by name after the first evening.

  • A genuinely small, low-volume camp
  • Direct view over Lake Burunge from the lounge
  • Owned and run by Arusha Safaris, not a franchise or a hotel chain
  • Well suited to private and off the beaten track itineraries

Unfenced

Wildlife in camp

The camp is deliberately not fenced. Almost all of Tarangire's larger animals have already visited the camp, and elephants regularly pass by. After dark, guests are always escorted to and from their tents, and every tent has a radio to reach the team.

Since June 2026

A new camp

Kijani opened in June 2026. We built it to offer what we value on safari ourselves: quiet, closeness to nature, good food and attentive service without a large hotel operation.

The name

Kijani means green

Kijani is the Swahili word for green.

  • Lunch served hot in camp or as a packed lunch box for the game drive
  • Drinking water included; other drinks payable in camp at fair prices
  • Special dietary requirements catered for with advance notice

End the day around the fire

When the sun sets behind Lake Burunge, the lanterns are lit. After dinner, guests meet at the fire, with a drink in hand and only the sounds of the bush around them.

Energy

Solar powered

The camp runs on solar power. A backup generator is kept for emergencies only.
